Hotel Reopening

Xigera Safari Lodge: New luxury camp in the Okavango Delta in Botswana

A new eco-lodge in a class of its own has opened in the Okavango Delta in Botswana: Xigera Safari Lodge (pronounced “kee-jera”) is located on one of the waterways of the Moremi Game Reserve and is the latest project of Red Carnation Hotels, with which the hotelier family Tollman, originating from South Africa, has fulfilled a lifelong dream.

The twelve individually designed suites all feature a daybed on the terrace overlooking the floodplains. The fully air-conditioned “Xigera Family Suite” was created especially for families. It consists of two bedrooms on two islands, each with its own bathroom, dressing area and outdoor shower, connected by a common lounge area complete with terrace. Children from 12 years and older are welcome here.

The design of Xigera Safari Lodge was created in a collaboration with Southern Guild Gallery and is intended to combine an authentic Africa with modern luxury. Every piece guests look at or touch has been handcrafted – from the furniture to the numerous artworks commissioned from young African artists and craftsmen. For a unique sleepout experience, a Baobab treehouse is located about a kilometer from the camp.

The African-inspired menus at Xigera Safari Lodge come from Red Carnation Hotels’ experienced chefs and are complemented by popular recipes inspired by Bea Tollman’s legendary dishes. Only fresh and local ingredients are used. The wine cellar showcases a premium list of excellent champagnes and wines. Spa treatments by Tata Harper round out the stay perfectly.

On safaris through the Moremi Game Reserve, guests are free to choose what time of day they want to depart. The Okavango Delta can be explored by canoe, glass-bottomed Moroko or motorboat. Rates at Xigera Safari Lodge range from USD 2,320 to USD 3,995 per person per night, depending on the season. Included are accommodations, all food and beverages (wine cellar excluded), park fees and all activities. Only spa treatments are charged extra.
