Wow moments on the Matterhorn: Riffelalp Resort opens the winter season

If you are looking for magical powdery landscapes, fresh mountain air and a secluded oasis of peace far away from the noise and hectic of the world in winter, the Riffelalp Resort in Zermatt is definitely the right address: The luxury hideaway is located at an altitude of 2,222 meters directly opposite the Matterhorn and offers a fantastic view of a breathtaking mountain panorama. On the 3rd of December 2020 the resort will start its winter season, which will last until the end of April 2021.

Much about this member of the “Leading Hotels of the World” is unique – from the highest spa in Europe to the highest ski resort on the continent, which is also one of the largest in the world. The Riffelalp Resort offers a total of 65 rooms, five suites and two apartments. The top attraction in the spa is the 35 degree warm outdoor pool with its own fresh spring water and direct view of the Matterhorn. An indoor pool and various saunas await you inside.

In the “Alexandre” restaurant, regional and Mediterranean specialities are served with a spectacular view of the Matterhorn, while the cosy “Al Bosco” with its sun terrace is dedicated to Italian and Swiss Alpine cuisine – including a “Matterhorn Pizza” created especially for the Riffelalp Resort. The “Valaisan Cellar”, which is only open in winter, in turn spoils guests with selected Swiss specialities such as cheese fondue, raclette and grills. The “2’222m” bar and the hotel’s own vinotheque round off the culinary offer.

By the way, there is no road leading to the Riffelap Resort – only the Gornergrat-Bahn. For the almost 500 meters between the Riffelalp station and the resort, a historic streetcar is available in summer – naturally the highest one with a federal railroad concession. In winter, guests have to cover this distance on foot along an idyllic path – only their luggage is transported by the Ski-Doo. In return, they are taken directly from the resort to the slopes and after a long day of skiing back to the resort.
