Vietjet uses controversial COVID-19 offer to attract passengers

The Vietnamese airline Vietjet has been criticized several times in the past. The best-known example is probably some flights on which the flight attendants worked in bikini.

Now, a new announcement is causing criticism: Vietjet is trying to lure passengers into their planes with “SKY COVID CARE” insurance. All passengers flying domestic with Vietjet from 23 March to the end of June would therefore be covered with up to VND 200 million (just under EUR 8,000) if they became infected within a period of 30 days after their flight.

It is also pointed out that the health of all passengers and the crew is protected to the highest degree. The is questionable to what extent this is possible in a narrowly seated aircraft.

Among other things, the announcement states:

The new-age carrier Vietjet offers the SKY COVID CARE insurance with coverage ranging from 20,000,000 VND to a maximum of 200,000,000 VND for all passengers flying on domestic flights of Vietjet from 23 March 2020 to 30 June 2020. With the insurance, passengers are eligible for insurance coverage and benefits from Vietjet within 30 days starting at 00:01 of the flight date, regardless of how passengers are infected with the disease.

Tens of billion dong paying for the insurance premiums are covered entirely by Vietjet with the purpose to bring passengers assurance when flying on modern and comfortable aircraft with young and professional cabin crews. The health safety of passengers and cabin crews are protected at the highest level against all risks of disease.
