The Tokyo Edition: New luxury hotel with view over the Japanese capital

The luxury lifestyle brand “Edition” by Ian Schrager has opened its first hotel in Tokyo: The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon is to combine the best of East and West in concept and design. It was designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma – the creator of the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo and many other iconic buildings in Japan.

The hotel is housed in the new, 180-meter-high skyscraper “Tokyo World Gate”, which is only a few steps away from Tokyo’s best districts. Here, The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon occupies floors 31 to 36, offering not only a breathtaking view of the metropolis’ skyline, but also the absolute best view of the Tokyo Tower.

The two-story lobby was inspired by Buddhist temples, while the 184 rooms and 22 suites – several of which have their own terrace – are designed in a neutral color palette of white oak and light gray, ivory and silver textiles. The spa offers healing and beauty treatments with Japanese products, a pool, a Jacuzzi and a fitness center.

The two restaurants of The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon, are run by star chef Tom Aikens – the international, all-day open “Blue Room” and the Japanese “Jade Room”. The latter features a “Sky Garden” that extends 140 meters above street level and is decorated with more than 500 plants, trees and shrubs – perhaps the largest skyscraper garden in all of Tokyo. There is also a bar that serves specially curated cocktails.

The “Gold Bar at Edition” on the second floor serves as a relaxed lounge during the day with an all-day menu and a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in the afternoon before transforming into an elegant cocktail and sake bar in the evening. Room rates start at YEN 48,000 (plus taxes and fees) per night – the equivalent of around EUR 390. For a limited time, The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon is granting an exclusive opening discount of 20 percent.
