New Hotel Opening

The Mitsui Kyoto: New “Luxury Collection” hotel in Japan’s ancient imperial city

Marriott has announced the opening of a new “Luxury Collection” hotel in the former Japanese capital of Kyoto: The Mitsui Kyoto was once the residence of the aristocratic Mitsui family and is now a unique hotel that combines contemporary design with the country’s ancient traditions. This is a hot pick as soon as travel to Japan will be possible again – and not only because of the hot spring waiting behind the 300-year-old gate of the property.

The Mitsui Kyoto is located in the heart of the old imperial city. The 17th century Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is directly opposite. Above all, The Mitsui Kyoto is the only luxury hotel in the city centre with its own hot spring. This is also the focus of the more than 1,000 square metre “thermal spring spa”, where Japanese onsen traditions are celebrated in a modern form.

The 161 rooms and suites of The Mitsui Kyoto represent the elegance and relaxed luxury of traditional Japanese tea rooms. The minimalist design is intended to reflect the beauty and serenity of the classic Japanese courtyard garden. The two onsen suites also feature private gardens and their own outdoor hot spring baths.

In the typical teppan restaurant “Toki”, Japanese specialities are prepared in front of the guests, while the Italian “Forni” comes up with newly interpreted pizza and pasta. “The Garden Bar” offers the perfect place for afternoon tea and cocktails in the evening. Standard rates currently start at the equivalent of around EUR 860 per room per night (including taxes and fees).
