The historic Carton House becomes the first Fairmont Hotel in Ireland

The Carton House in County Kildare, built in 1739, becomes the first Fairmont Hotel in Ireland. Located just 25 minutes from Dublin, it is considered one of the most important historic country houses on the “Emerald Isle” and will now reopen as “Carton House, a Fairmont Managed Hotel” in spring 2021 after extensive refurbishment and renovation.

As at the other 80 locations worldwide, Fairmont intends to combine the historical ambience of a magnificent building with all the advantages of the Accor luxury brand. The hotel is located on a spacious 445-hectare park property and has 165 rooms and suites, 18 of which are located in “The House”.

In addition there is an outdoor pool, a spa and wellness area and 1,000 square meters of conference and event rooms. The 2019 completely renovated “Carriage House” at the golf club serves food and drinks during the day and in the evening in the atmosphere of a cosy inn. In spring 2021, three more F&B outlets will open – the two restaurants “The Morrison Room” and “Kathleen’s Kitchen” and the “Courtyard Bar”.

Bicycle tours, hiking, tennis and fishing are possible activities. There is also a falconry. But the highlight of Carton House are the two 18-hole golf courses: While the classic parkland course “O ‘Meara” meanders picturesquely through old forests and along the banks of the Rye River, the highly demanding links course “Montgomerie” has already hosted the “Irish Open” three times. By the way, for Fairmont the Carton House is the oldest building in the portfolio.
