Hotel Reopening

Stock Exchange Manchester: Two football stars open a luxury hotel

Two former Manchester United football stars – Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs – have opened a luxury hotel in Manchester that has already been added to the Relais & Châteaux portfolio at the start: the new Stock Exchange Hotel is located in the city’s former stock exchange, which was built in 1906 as the “Manchester Stock Exchange” and was last used as an office and restaurant.

Neville and Giggs bought the listed building in 2014 together with the hotelier Winston Zahra and had it converted into exceptional accommodation with enormous effort. The Istanbul studio Autoban succeeded perfectly in combining modern design with historical elements such as marble, brass, glass and woodwork. Old chimneys, artistic glass windows and traditional domed roofs also give the house a very special look.

Each of the 40 rooms has a different layout, but all are atmospherically designed in subdued green and cream tones – with soft seating, elegant mirrors and old, hand-colored photos of the stock exchange. They are crowned by the “Nineteen O Six Suite” with two bedrooms, the 171 square meter “Boardroom Suite” with marble columns and fireplace and the 346 square meter residence “The House” with a private roof terrace on the fifth floor.

The heart of the Stock Exchange Hotel is the “Bull & the Bear” restaurant with an adjoining bar in the former trading room, which is outshone by a ceiling dome decorated with gold. The Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge serves classic English cuisine here, as is known from his other restaurants – such as the “Hand & Flowers” in Marlow and the “Kerridge’s Bar & Grill” in Corinthia London.

Two event rooms – “The Vault” for up to 120 people and “The Bank” with its own wine cellar, in which up to 14 guests can dine privately – round off the facilities. “We see ourselves as guardians of this house,” says Ryan Giggs: “The former stock exchange building had a significant impact on the city. Our goal was to bring it back to life, preserve the legacy and tell the memories and stories to the next generation. ”
