Singapore: Former Six Senses boutique hotel moves to Marriott

Since its opening in 2018, the Six Senses Duxton has been considered one of the best boutique hotels in Singapore. However, Six Senses said goodbye to this gem in May 2020. Now, the renamed “Duxton Reserve Singapore” property of the Garcha Group has officially become part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection – and the following still applies: If you haven’t stayed here, you haven’t been to Singapore.

The Duxton Reserve Singapore is located in the historic Tanjong Pagar district in the heart of Chinatown. Eight former 19th century shophouses were carefully restored for the hotel. The extraordinary design, inspired by Chinese, Malay and European culture, was created by former actress Anouska Hempel, who rose to fame as a Bond girl in 1969 and is now considered one of the best interior designers in the world.

Opium Suites and a glamorous bar

Throughout the hotel, large golden fans line the windows. The interiors feature black and gold sofas, black lacquered tables, calligraphy brushes, bamboo shades and Indenture wallpaper from the designer’s personal collection. All 49 rooms and suites have been individually designed: The “Opium Suites” combine black walls with Chinese four-poster beds, while the “Pearl Suites” have white walls and mother-of-pearl inlaid chests of drawers.

The Chinese restaurant “Yellow Pot” under the direction of chef Sebastian Goh follows the “philosophy of clean eating” without additives or artificial flavours. The glamorous bar “Anouska’s” serves the actress’ favourite drinks from the disco era of the 1970s and 1980s. In workshops at a perfumery right next door, guests can recreate the boutique hotel’s signature scent and take it home from Singapore – a blend of amber, oud, patchouli and ginger.
