Saffron Collection: ONYX launches new brand with boutique hotels in Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand

The Asian ONYX Hospitality Group is launching a new brand: The “Saffron Collection” is intended to unite individual boutique hotels that tell the story of the respective travel destination in a creative way. The first hotels will be in Hanoi, Penang, Bangkok and Aranyaprathet and will complement the group’s existing hotel brands – Amari, OZO and Shama.

As the first member, the Oriental Residence Bangkok is now listed under the “Saffron Collection”. Inspired by the history of the “Oriental Hotel” on the banks of the Chao Phraya, the five-star hotel, which opened in 2012, is a modern interpretation of this world-famous hotel in the center of the city. Among other things, 145 suites and the French-inspired “Café Claire” await the guests.

In October 2020, The Five Residences Hanoi will be the first newly built hotel in the collection in the capital of Vietnam. Its design will be inspired by the famous marble mountains in central Vietnam, which are equated with the five elements of nature – earth, fire, wood, metal and water. 116 rooms and suites, neo-Asian cuisine in the “NAM” restaurant and a spa are planned.

The George in Penang is scheduled to open in mid-2021. Surrounded by the numerous sights of the old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the luxury hotel should invite its guests to hear the story of the charming, after King George III. named port city to discover. The house itself is steeped in history – after all, it once housed a Chinese pharmacy. In addition to 93 rooms and suites, a restaurant and a rooftop pool are available.

The fourth member of the “Saffron Collection” will be the Indochina Hotel in Aranyaprathet in eastern Thailand, which is scheduled to reopen in early 2022. The historic property consists of two-story colonial-style buildings and was once the city’s first hotel. Built on the property of a philanthropist who donated the majority of her fortune to charity, the 120 rooms will continue to show the lady’s preferences for textiles, jasmine flowers and recipes for Thai green curry even after the extensive renovation.

If the ONYX Hospitality Group has its way, every object in the “Saffron Collection” should reflect the history of the local people and culture and thus create authentic experiences through local design. Specially made postcards, magazines and exploration maps are also part of the concept, as is a cocktail display case in the lobby, which invites you to enjoy a drink with regional spirits and a cocktail that is characteristic of the respective house.
