Nirjhara: Luxury resort with waterfall as new insider tip on Bali

The Nirjhara, an extraordinary luxury resort near the southwest coast of Bali, opened in January. Surrounded by rainforest, rice terraces, a waterfall, and a river in a small gorge, the sustainable hideaway is currently considered one of the hottest insider tips on the “Island of the Gods”. Moreover, the beach of Kedungu, which is particularly popular with surfers, is only five minutes away.

The Nirjhara’s only 25 accommodations are spread over twelve pavilions on the river (four of them with pool), seven canopy suites under the treetops, five pool villas and the luxury villa “The Residence”. Indonesian design with a tropical aesthetic characterises the ambience. The custom-made furniture comes exclusively from local craftsmen and the contemporary artworks from the country’s emerging talents.

A spa as a haven by the waterfall

At the heart of Nirjhara is a spa called The Retreat, right on the river. Inspired by Bali’s rich tradition of village healers, the therapies use ancient techniques and natural products from the island. Four treatment rooms are complemented by two Finnish saunas and a fitness centre. Free classes Yoga Pavilion overlooking the waterfall are led by local experts – from sunrise yoga to sunset meditation sessions.

In the slow-food restaurant “Ambu”, guests can explore Indonesia’s culinary diversity, with most ingredients coming from the hotel’s own vegetable and herb garden as well as from farms in neighbouring villages. Completing the Nirjhara’s facilities are a cinema, a boutique featuring the work of local artisans and a library, where afternoon tea is also served. The Best Flexible Rate currently starts at around EUR 200 per night, including taxes and fees.
