New splendor for the legendary palace-hotel La Mamounia in Marrakech

After an extensive renovation, which took more than five months, the legendary La Mamounia in Marrakesch has reopened its doors. The rooms and public areas have been redesigned and modernized by Parisian interior designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, without detracting from the traditional charm of the 97-year-old Grand Hotel.

Two restaurants are brand new, under the direction of the renowned French chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who is known for his love of exceptional ingredients: an Italian trattoria and a restaurant with a new Asian concept inspired by the culinary influences of Southeast Asia will in future complement the culinary offerings of the Palace Hotel.

Ever since its opening in 1923, La Mamounia has been considered one of the most sought-after luxury addresses in the world. Members of the royal family, politicians, celebrities and the international jet-set almost regularly stayed here. Prime Minister Winston Churchill even once described the Grand Hotel as “the most beautiful place in the world”. Even fashion greats such as Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Kenzo, Valentino or Jean Paul Gaultier found a second home in the alleys of the old town after experiencing the magic of Marrakech during a stay at La Mamounia.

After a long sleep, the historic hotel was finally completely renovated and “kissed awake” again eleven years ago by interior designer Jacques Garcia. Since then, 136 rooms and 71 suites have been available here – including seven Signature Suites and three riads, each with three bedrooms, Moroccan salons and a private terrace with ozone pool. Madonna and Nicole Kidman were the most famous guests here recently, but at La Mamounia everyone can feel like a star.
