Hotel Reopening

Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid opens in summer

The legendary Hotel Ritz, Madrid will reopen in the summer of 2020 as the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid, after the most extensive renovation in its 110-year history. The icon of the Spanish hotel industry was designed under the aegis of César Ritz and opened its doors for the first time in 1910. Since then it has always been a highly luxurious hostel for royalty, politicians, company heads and celebrities.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group acquired the hotel in 2015 and has had it renovated since March 2018 by around EUR 100 million, while maintaining the unique character of the hotel in the Belle Epoque style. Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz played a key role in the historic restoration, while French designers Gilles & Boissier looked after the interior of the 100 rooms and 53 suites.

The meticulous redesign of the public spaces focuses on restoring the numerous architectural features of the hotel. Many valuable works of art from the collection of the house – including crystal chandeliers, antique paintings and sculptures – will find their way back. At the same time, a new spa with an indoor pool, vital pool, experience showers, steam bath and fitness center is being built.

Also new are two suites on the top floor with private balconies and views of the Prado. The five restaurants and bars are revitalized by the famous chef Quique Dacosta. He has three Michelin stars in “Dénia” in Alicante and two in “El Poblet” in Valencia. The future Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is located in the “Golden Triangle of Art” with the city’s most important museums – the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Reina Sofía.
