Miles & More

Lufthansa Miles & More goodwill scheme for 2021: Double status miles AND status miles without flying

Miles & More already published goodwill regulations for some status customers last year in May and also in September 2020. As there are still many travel restrictions in 2021 until further notice, Miles & More has now announced further goodwill arrangements:

  • Miles & More participants, Frequent Travellers and Senator status holders will be credited with double status miles in every service class on all Lufthansa Group flights for the entire year 2021 (retroactively since 1 January 2021) (only applies to booking classes eligible for miles, no award flights).
  • Senator and HON Circle status holders receive double HON Circle Miles for Business and First Class flights on all Lufthansa Group flights for the entire year 2021 (retroactive since 1 January 2021, applies only to mileage-eligible booking classes, no award flights).
  • Senator and Frequent Traveller status holders who are in possession of the Miles & More credit card or are now applying for it can generate status miles by using their credit card.

Earn double status miles and HON Circle Miles on LH Group flights

No registration is necessary for this promotion. The double status miles are valid on all flights operated by the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa Private Jet and Edelweiss Air). Flights operated by partner airlines such as Croatia Airlines, Luxair and LOT Polish Airlines also count towards the promotion, provided you earn regular status miles or HON Circle Miles on these flights.

Generate status miles with your Miles & More credit card

Frequent Travellers and Senators now have the opportunity to earn status miles without flying. For every euro spent with their Miles & More credit card, they receive two status miles. This is intended to make it easier to extend their status and upgrade from Frequent Traveller to Senator. Status customers who are also holders of the Miles & More credit card also receive a one-time bonus of 5,000 status miles. You will also receive this bonus if you apply for a new Miles & More credit card this year. You can generate a maximum of 30,000 status miles through transactions including the bonus. So you can almost extend the Frequent Traveller without flying. You will not receive Select Miles for the status miles generated via the credit card.

Conclusion

While the Lufthansa Miles & More goodwill arrangements for 2020 only affected a very manageable portion of customers, all existing status customers as well as potential new customers will now be picked up with the goodwill arrangement for 2021. The double status miles credit makes status (re)qualification much easier and should allow many to cross the threshold to FTL or Senator sooner or later despite the travel restrictions that still exist. Truly unique among current frequent flyer programmes, however, is the ability to now earn status miles without flying. This makes the hurdle for Senator and Co. quite feasible even with a low flight profile in 2021.
