Kempinski takes over two hotel locations in the mountains of Switzerland

Two new locations in Switzerland will in future supplement the portfolio of Kempinski Hotels: as soon as the renovation work, which has been underway for four and a half years, is completed, the Engelberg Palace will open in spring 2021 as the “Kempinski Palace Engelberg”. In addition, two interconnected four-star superior hotels in Melchsee-Frutt near Lucerne will be managed by Kempinski from the 2020/21 winter season.

The owner of Palace Engelberg is Han’s Europe AG with the Chinese investor Yunfeng Gao. They want to turn the Grand Hotel, which opened in 1904, into the first international five-star hotel in the famous Swiss mountain village at 1,000 meters above sea level. After a construction period of around four and a half years – including a modern extension that was added to the Art Nouveau building – the project in the center of Engelberg is now close to completion.

Guests can look forward to 123 rooms and six suites with a size of up to 116 square meters, an extensive gastronomic offer and an 880 square meter spa and wellness area on the top floor of the new building, including an infinity pool with a view over the whole of Engelberg. Historical features of the old part of the hotel have been retained and are intended to lend a special flair to the building with its traditional Kursaal.

The second new addition to the Kempinski Hotels in Switzerland is located very close to Lucerne in the small vacation area Melchsee-Frutt. Here, the Frutt Lodge & Spa and the Frutt Family Lodge at 2,000 meters above sea level directly on Melchsee Lake were built in 2011 and 2016 respectively. They are connected by an underground corridor and have a total of 114 rooms and suites, a spa landscape on 900 square meters, a bowling alley, a cinema and a Kids Club. The owner is also Han’s Europe AG.
