New Hotel Opening

Kempinski Palace Engelberg: New luxury hotel in the Swiss Alps

Kempinski is coming to the Swiss Alps: with the launch of the Kempinski Palace Engelberg on 25 June 2021, the largest holiday destination in central Switzerland will get its first international five-star superior hotel. For the project, a new building was added to the Grandhotel Winterhaus – later known as the “Europäischer Hof” – which opened in 1904, seamlessly bringing the architecture of the Belle Epoque era into the present.

Tile mosaics, marble, coffered ceilings, chandeliers and the niches in the bedrooms of the Belle Epoque wing continue to recall the building’s traditional past. A cosy fireplace was also left in place. At the same time, materials such as wool, wicker, wood grains, copper and antique brass provide subtle contrasts and a very special touch.

Rooms and suites with a view of the mountains

The 129 rooms and suites at the Kempinski Palace Engelberg boast light colours and fine materials such as brushed oak and high-quality leather in warm brown tones. Gentle shades of green and blue convey a feeling of fresh mountain air, while historical details combine with state-of-the-art furnishings and a spectacular panoramic view of the mountains.

The quiet summer terrace of the “Cattani Restaurant” also offers a unique view of the mountain landscape. Here and indoors, chef Michéle Müller serves seasonal products from local producers. The “Palace Bar” and the “Cigar Lounge” revive the Roaring Twenties. The “Wintergarden”, directly adjacent to the lobby with its own terrace, is recommended for the traditional Afternoon Tea – a signature service of the hotel.

A spectacular spa for all the senses

The perfect place to relax is the spectacular Kempinski The Spa on the top floor with selected massages and treatments, an infinity pool, spacious lounging areas and a relaxation room with an open Himalayan salt stone fireplace. For meetings and events, there are nine conference rooms and the historic, newly renovated spa hall with space for up to 1,000 guests.

The Kempinski Palace Engelberg is located right next to the spa gardens and only a few minutes’ walk from the railway station. The famous Engelberg monastery and the mountain railways are a ten-minute walk away. From Zurich airport, it takes around 75 minutes by car or train to reach Engelberg. With the current opening special, room rates start at the equivalent of EUR 497 per night including breakfast in summer and EUR 404 in autumn.
