The borders of Jamaica have been closed since the end of March 2020 due to the corona pandemic. Now the infection numbers have dropped so far that the Caribbean island wants to receive foreign visitors again from 15 June 2020 – but only with strict rules that will not please every tourist.
The strict measures start at the airport. Every traveler has to go through a temperature scanner to rule out an increased body temperature and thus possible symptoms of illness. The airport personnel are also regularly checked in this regard before contacting the travelers.
In addition, passengers have to be prepared to temporarily regulate access to certain areas in order to avoid large crowds. The workplaces of the airport employees were equipped with plexiglass windows and intercoms. In addition, a mask requirement applies to the entire airport, the distance requirement and the request to regularly use the disinfection options provided.
You could still endure all this. What is less pleasing, however, is that the obligation to wear a mask applies throughout the country – including in hotels, with every public activity and even on the beach. It can only be removed temporarily in the water. In addition, regular body temperature checks are planned in the hotels. In the event that a corona infection occurs despite all of these measures, Jamaica has installed several emergency centers to ensure fast medical care.
