Hotel Opening

Hyatt gives the legendary Byblos Hotel in Andalusia a second life

Since opening in 1986, the “Byblos” in Mijas has been a popular haven for jet setters and royals, before finally being closed in 2010. After ten years in a deep slumber, Hyatt now wants to transform the hotel icon on the Spanish Costa del Sol into a modern luxury resort with 200 rooms and suites. The Byblos Hotel is scheduled to reopen in early 2022 as a member of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.

The “Byblos” became famous above all as the favorite Spanish hotel of Princess Diana, who had been here three times since 1993. When she was caught “topless” by the paparazzi here, the pictures went around the world. But the Saudi royal family, the Rolling Stones, Antonio Banderas and Julio Iglesias also valued the hideway – to name just a few of the many prominent guests.

Hyatt now wants to bring the memories of this golden travel age on the Andalusian coast back to life – including the lush gardens, the indoor and outdoor pools and the spacious, bright rooms. The many luxurious amenities of the house will be modernized, but will also be retained – such as the gym, the spa, the cinema and the night club.

The two 18-hole golf courses, which were once designed by Robert Trent Jones and border directly on the hotel, continue to be a highlight of the “Byblos”. The rooftop bar will offer a breathtaking view of the Sierra de Mijas, while the diverse Andalusian cuisine is celebrated in the restaurants. A kids club and conference rooms for private events and meetings are to round off the facilities.

The Byblos Hotel will be the first Hyatt in southern Spain – and thus also the first member of the “The Unbound Collection by Hyatt” in this region. The collection currently includes such unique hotels as the Hôtel du Louvre in the heart of Paris, the Parisi Udvar Hotel Budapest, the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes, the Hôtel du Palais Biarritz, the Nish Palas in Istanbul and the Great Scotland Yard Hotel in London.
