Homage to the Oktoberfest: Lufthansa dress crews fly again this year

Unfortunately, the Munich Oktoberfest has been cancelled – but Lufthansa is still holding on to the tradition of the traditional costume crews: On the 22nd of September 2020, eleven flight attendants in traditional costume will once again take off from Munich to Newark in an Airbus A350. In addition, from the 21st to the 25th of September 2020 costume crews will be on board numerous European flights operated by Lufthansa CityLine from Munich – including flights to Berlin, Sylt, Vienna, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Manchester and Santorini.

The current Lufthansa traditional costume was designed in 2018 by Munich-based traditional costume specialist Angermaier: The flight attendants’ Wiesn dirndl is dark blue with a silver-gray apron, while the gentlemen wear short leather pants with a dark blue vest in the dirndl’s fabric. It has also been a long-standing tradition for Lufthansa’s passenger service staff in Terminal 2 to welcome passengers in Dirndls and traditional costume during the Wiesn period.

And last but not least, the Lufthansa lounges in Munich, in addition to the costume crews, are once again a reminder of the Oktoberfest season. Passengers can choose from typical Bavarian dishes such as Leberkäs’, cabbage or potato salad – complemented by roasted almonds, pretzel pearls and Oktoberfest beer. In September, trout and Bavarian cream are served on board Business Class, among other things. A Weissbier can be ordered with it. Incidentally, the first Lufthansa flights in traditional costume took place in 1957, and the idea was taken up again in 2006.
