Four Seasons Formentor: New project at the most famous hotel on Mallorca

Four Seasons has announced a new project on Mallorca: The legendary Hotel Formentor, built back in 1929, is to open its doors as a Four Seasons Hotel in 2023 after an extensive renovation. After the launch of the Four Seasons Hotel Madrid in September 2020, it will be the brand’s second property in Spain.

The Barceló hotel group had sold the property, which was acquired in 2006 and last operated under the name “Royal Hideaway Formentor”, in December 2020 for EUR 165 million to the investment fund Emin Capital. It was already clear at that time that Four Seasons would be the new operator for the most famous hotel on Mallorca with probably the best location on the island.

Winston Churchill, Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn

In the course of its 90-year history, the Hotel Formentor has welcomed many famous personalities – including Winston Churchill, Audrey Hepburn, Charlie Chaplin, Grace Kelly, and Prince Rainier III. In 2001, it even hosted a Middle East summit with Israeli President Shimon Peres and PLO leader Yasser Arafat.

The hotel is located on a 1,200-hectare property on the Formentor peninsula in the municipality of Pollença – directly on Playa Formentor. It also includes a winery just a five-minute drive away, where an exclusive programme will await Four Seasons guests in the future.

A sustainable hotel in the middle of nature

All 110 rooms and suites will have balconies with sea and forest views. In addition, an indoor restaurant, a beachfront restaurant and café, a poolside bar and grill restaurant, a luxurious spa and tennis courts are planned. For meetings and events, three function rooms and several outdoor options will be available.

Even at the time of purchase, Emin Capital committed to protecting the natural habitat through comprehensive environmental initiatives. These include the restoration of the original vegetation, reduced water and energy consumption, the generation of solar energy through solar panels, the collection of rainwater for agriculture, the use of heat recovery systems and the use of electric vehicles.
