One&Only opens the second Nature Resort in Rwanda

The new One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, which welcomed its first guests on 1 November 2019 at the foothills of the Virunga volcano chain in the northwest of the country – just five minutes from Volcanoes National Park – promises a box seat in one of Rwanda’s most popular mountain gorilla reserves. For One&Only, it is the second ultra-luxury resort in Rwanda after the opening of One&Only Nyungwe House in October 2018.

There are 21 beautifully designed private refuges to choose from – ten Forest King Lodges, four Forest Lodges, each with two bedrooms, five Virunga suites and one Ingagi and one Silverback suite. They are all surrounded by nature, framed by eucalyptus trees and strategically placed on stilts. Private outside decks and open fireplaces in the living area are standard. The suites offer spacious living and dining areas as well as an outdoor bathtub.

In the main restaurant “Nest” with tables inside and outside mainly African and typical dishes are served. Executive Chef Bryan English uses local organic ingredients from local farms and his own garden. Private outdoor dinners, barbecues and picnics can be arranged on request. Light meals are also available at the pool bar throughout the day. Classic cocktails with a modern touch are available at the “Nest Bar”.

Together with the South African brand Terres d’Afrique, the One&Only Spa offers holistic applications with African plant-based products. The “Club One” also offers a relaxation room, a heated outdoor pool, a plunge pool and a fitness centre with steam bath and sauna. The One&Only Gorilla’s Nest is about two and a half hours from Kigali International Airport in the capital of Rwanda, but can also be reached by helicopter in just 25 minutes.
