Entry with or without vaccination: Seychelles abolish quarantine for holidaymakers

Seychelles is easing entry and reopening to travellers from around the world from 25 March 2021 – whether they are vaccinated against Covid-19 or not. The six-day quarantine for all unvaccinated visitors will be abolished from that day. The pools, bars, spas and children’s clubs in the hotels will also be open again. All that is required is proof of a negative PCR test carried out at least 72 hours before departure.

The booking of a hotel certified by the authorities also remains a prerequisite. Of the 700 accommodations currently on the archipelago, 535 have such Covid-19 certification. Apart from that, holidaymakers are allowed to move around freely on all islands, but they have to abide by the applicable rules just like the locals. These include wearing a mouth-nose protection and keeping a minimum distance of one metre from strangers.

60 percent of the population are vaccinated

The good news was announced by Tourism Minister Sylvestre Radegonde at a press conference organised by the Seychelles Tourism Board. He stressed that the relaxation of the entry rules was made possible by the success of the vaccination campaign launched earlier this year. In the meantime, almost 60 percent of the population has received the first vaccination dose and 25 percent of the adult population has already been fully vaccinated.

Only visitors from South Africa will continue to be denied entry to the Seychelles in order to protect the all-important guests from the European markets. Qatar Airways has already reacted to the changes and is increasing the frequency on the Doha-Mahé route to three flights a week from the end of March. For German holidaymakers, however, quarantine is compulsory after returning from the Seychelles, as the islands have been designated as a high-risk area by the RKI.
