Castle from the 12th century with a golf course: Six Senses comes to Umbria

With a castle from the 12th century, Six Senses in Umbria has found the perfect location for the second hotel in Italy: after an extensive renovation, the medieval Castello di Antognolla will receive its first guests in 2023 as Six Senses Antognolla.

There are plans for 71 suites that combine the heritage of Umbria with the comfort of today – some directly in the castle and some in the surrounding village buildings. In addition, 79 residences are available for purchase. They range from apartments and villas with two bedrooms to farmhouses with six bedrooms.

The spa is being built in a modern wing of the main building and should specialize in its wellness programs particularly on sleep health, nutrition, exercise and self-discovery. The kitchen of the Six Senses Antognolla will only use the best local products, some of which are grown in the hotel itself – including herbs, olives, fruits and vegetables.

Six Senses Antognolla: The golf course is playable all year round

An 18-hole golf course designed by the renowned designer Robert Trent Jones Junior runs right through the 540 hectare home. With long fairways, wavy greens, pretty lakes and quick-drying surfaces, it was designed to be playable all year round. To protect the environment, the wastewater is collected and recycled.

With the multitude of leisure activities, it is primarily about shared experiences. So guests can take part in events and celebrations of the local community, get to know the traditions and heritage of the region in the “Experience Pavilion” with handicraft courses, wine and food tastings or learn everything about organic wine production.

The Castello di Antognolla is next to a Benedictine monastery and a crypt from the 10th century with traces of a Roman settlement. The former seat of a most powerful aristocratic family is located 20 kilometers north of Perugia near the border with Tuscany and also borders on Monte Tezio – the highest mountain in Umbria. The castle can be reached from Florence in 1:45 hours and from Rome in 2:15 hours.
