New Hotel Opening

Aloft Tulum: Marriott opens lifestyle hotel on the Caribbean coast of Mexico

For the “next generation traveller”, Marriott has just opened the new Aloft Tulum on the Mexican Caribbean coast – about 90 minutes south of Cancun. With no beach access, the boho chic-inspired city hotel’s main draw is its rooftop infinity pool. If you are looking for an inexpensive yet stylish stopover on a round trip, this is probably the place for you.

There are 140 loft-like rooms and suites spread over the four floors of Aloft Tulum. Bright and airy, they feature a 55-inch TV, complimentary coffee, rainforest showers, and Aloft skincare products from Bliss Spa. Some also have a balcony or terrace. Rates for Marriott Bonvoy members currently start at USD 123 for the most basic room and USD 184 for the 66-square-metre suite – each per night including breakfast.

Rooftop lounge with bar and pool

The highlight of the Aloft Tulum is certainly the “Ático Rooftop Lounge & Bar” by the pool, where guests can enjoy local cuisine and seasonal cocktails with a view of Tulum. The lifestyle hotel’s facilities also include a “W XYZ Restaurant”, a “Re: Fuel” with fresh take-away options, a “W XYZ Bar” with live music, a fitness centre and meeting rooms for up to 240 people.

The location off the tourist trail on Coba Avenue can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. In any case, the restaurants and shops in the centre of Tulum are easily accessible with a longer walk. The famous Mayan ruins of Tulum, the popular water park Xel-Há and “Playa Paraíso”, considered one of the most spectacular beaches in Mexico, are also only a short drive away.
