Thomson Dallas: Hyatt opens a new lifestyle hotel in Texas

Hyatt has opened a new hotel of the lifestyle brand “Thompson” in Texas. The Thomson Dallas is located in the iconic, freshly renovated skyscraper “The National” in downtown Dallas, which has been listed in the “National Register of Historic Places” of the USA since 2017. The metropolis’ landmark was completed in 1965 and, at 191 meters, was the tallest building in the United States west of the Mississippi for several years.

Some restored original wooden panels and the 17,555 hand-cut marble slabs on the façade, which come from the same quarry as the marble of the Parthenon in the Acropolis of Athens, still remind us of the history of “The National”. In addition to the hotel, the building also houses offices of renowned companies and 324 luxury apartments.

The Thomson Dallas’ 219 rooms include 52 suites and two penthouse suites. For the interior design, Caroline Todd of Todd Interiors selected exciting works of art and furniture worth more than two million US dollars. Highlights include paintings by British art photographer David Yarrow, paintings by David Bates and JD Miller, and sculptures by Raul Mourao.

The “Catbird” restaurant with lounge, bar and terrace on the tenth floor focuses on smaller meals and cocktails. The décor includes deGournay wallpaper, Patagonian quartzite coffee tables from the BSL Gallery in Paris and seating made of walnut and velvet by the Mexican design duo Ad Hoc. The restaurant “Nine at The National” on the ninth floor offers breakfast and lunch indoors and on the terrace by the pool, where a bar and private cabanas with TV are also available.

The large ballroom with 24 chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows is ideal for events. Later this year, the Thomson Dallas also plans to open a restaurant on the 49th floor with a view over the whole of Dallas, run by a two-star chef. Also planned is a spa and fitness center with five treatment rooms, plunge pools, steam and infrared saunas, a yoga studio and a golf simulator.
