Qatar boycott ends: Qatar Airways flies to Dubai again

In June 2017, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates closed their airspace to Qatar due to political differences. Naturally, this blockade hit Qatar Airways very hard. Several times a day, wide-body aircraft flew between Dubai and Doha, but also to the other countries. In addition, Qatar Airways had to make time-consuming and costly detours due to the airspace closure.

At the beginning of January 2021, the situation will come to an end: diplomatic relations between the parties involved have improved in recent months. Qatar Airways has been flying to Saudi Arabia again since 10 January, Egypt followed on 18 January and Dubai will be served again from 27 January. On 28 January, Abu Dhabi will also be reintroduced into the Qatar Airways route network. Currently, the routes are flown to once and twice daily with an Airbus A320. However, it will probably only be a matter of time until this route is again served by a long-haul aircraft and the frequency of connections is increased.

Thus, travellers to Dubai can benefit from another first-class airline. From Germany, Austria and Switzerland, flights to Dubai via Doha can already be found on the Qatar Airways website.
