Hôtel Metropole Monte-Carlo: New splendour for a legendary Grand Hotel

The Hôtel Metropole Monte-Carlo is considered one of the last true Grand Hotels in Europe. After an initial renovation phase, it has reopened its doors in the heart of Monaco with a fresh design just in time for the start of the summer season. The French star architect Jacques Garcia, who already helped the hotel to a new identity in 2004, is responsible for the new splendour.

Back then, the design guru created a Mediterranean palace that skilfully combined opulent Belle Époque architecture with modern elements and brought the classic interior into the 21st century with glamour and sophistication. Now he has given the chairs, curtains and carpets another complete makeover. The décor was complemented by selected antiques and works of art – such as the Egyptian columns in the entrance area, which come from Garcia’s private collection.

Karl Lagerfeld designed the pool in the garden

In addition to Jacques Garcia, other well-known names have also shaped the character of the Hôtel Metropole Monte-Carlo. In 2013, Karl Lagerfeld designed the hotel’s outdoor facilities with pool, terraces and gardens. Inspired by Ulysses’ Odyssey, frescoes on a 20-metre-long glass screen adorn the pool area and the outdoor restaurant. An absolutely sensational sight, especially in the evening!

Also noteworthy: Chef Takéo Yamazaki’s “Yoshi” is currently the only Japanese restaurant on the Côte d’Azur with a Michelin star – and the “Spa Metropole by Givenchy” is in turn one of only three Givenchy spas worldwide. The current redesign of the Hôtel Metropole will continue this winter with the 125 rooms and suites. Flexible rates start at EUR 440 to EUR 790 per room per night, depending on the season.
