Gran Meliá Chengdu: New luxury hotel in the home of the giant panda

Meliá Hotels International firmly believes in a rapid growth of tourism in China and has therefore resumed its expansion plans. In just two years, the company plans to double its presence in the country from five to ten hotels. The opening of the new five-star hotel Gran Meliá Chengdu just marked the beginning – and in a few months another luxury hotel, Gran Meliá Zhengzhou, will follow.

The Gran Meliá Chengdu is located on a more than 28,000 square meter property in the south of the city and looks directly onto Lake Jincheng – an oasis of peace and nature in the center of the metropolis. Seven buildings with a total of 265 rooms and suites combine Chengdu’s traditional Shu Han design with modern architecture and lush gardens.

A spa area, a fitness center, a heated indoor pool and more than 3,500 square meters of space for events and meetings complete the facilities. The culinary offerings in the five restaurants range from traditional Chinese dishes to authentic Iberian cuisine. Of course, the “RedLevel-Service” with personalized services for particularly demanding guests is not to be missed.

Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China and is considered one of the country’s most important economic centers. At the same time, surveys repeatedly rank the metropolis with its 14 million inhabitants among the most livable cities in China. Chengdu is especially famous as the “panda capital” of the world, because in the north of the city there is an important breeding station for the Giant Panda, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
