Gili Lankanfushi, Maldives: The largest overwater villa in the world

After a long corona break, the eco-resort Gili Lankanfushi on the Maldives has been welcoming guests again since the beginning of September. Only 45 spacious villas are waiting for them, which offer a maximum of privacy. The absolute highlight is the “Private Reserve”, which can only be reached by boat: with a living space of 1,700 square meters, it is the largest above-water villa in the world.

Located about 500 meters from the island and 300 meters from the nearest residence, the “Private Reserve” consists of five buildings that house four bedrooms, a private living room, a fitness area and a spa. The extensive outdoor area has an infinity pool and a water slide that leads directly into the lagoon. The resort’s boat can also be used for a relaxing day at sea.

Of course, all this has its price: For example in November prices run around EUR 14,313 per night for up to eight guests. But then not only the taxes and fees are included, but also breakfast, lunch and dinner, the minibar and drinks, a tour with a luxury yacht, a manta ray trip and daily private yoga classes.

Also the seven “Crusoe Residences” with one or two bedrooms are only accessible by boat. The facilities here include an open-air bathroom with private coral garden, a roof terrace and a sun deck with access to the sea. Some of these villas also offer a private pool. Price in November: from EUR 2,198 per night for two persons with breakfast, taxes and fees.

Ultimately, however, a completely normal “Villa Suite” with 210 square meters, sun deck over the water and roof terrace should be quite enough. As the resort’s cheapest accommodation, it can be booked in November from EUR 1,670 per night for two persons with breakfast, taxes and fees. By the way, all bookings at Gili Lankanfushi can be cancelled or changed free of charge until one week before arrival.

The three restaurants on the island serve plant-based dishes, using the sea and their own organic garden. Among the characteristic dishes are pan-fried scallops made from homemade daikon, aloe vera coconut ceviche and milk-free ginger ice cream. Guests can also eat in their villa throughout the day.

Special menus are also served at remote locations in the resort – from dinner under palm trees with lanterns to private sunset cruises. For long-lasting relaxation and strengthening of the immune system, the “Meera Spa” is the ideal place to relax. The spa uses its own products made from sea and plant extracts for holistic treatments.
