Save up to 80% on Hilton resorts world-wide

Please note that the following deal is already expired. It is shown only to illustrate a detailed insider strategy for PLATINUM and DIAMOND members.

Until 28 May 2019, you can buy Hilton Honors points with a 100% bonus. The maximum amount you can buy per calendar year is 80,000 points before any bonuses. Normally 1,000 points cost USD 10 each (approx. EUR 8.80), so with the maximum bonus of 100%, the effective price per 1,000 points is only USD 5/EUR 4.40. A very attractive price.

Conditions for the purchase of points:

  • Points must be purchased by 28 May 2019
  • No refund
  • After purchase, the points are credited within 24 hours, usually much faster
  • Points purchased will not count toward Hilton Honors status
  • 80,000 points (before bonuses) can be purchased per calendar year and account
  • Your Hilton Honors account must have existed for at least 90 days, or 30 days if an activity was registered to your account during that period

How to make the most of the points

In general, you should, of course, choose hotels where the point rate is very low compared to the standard rate. Usually, this is worthwhile for two types of hotels:

  • Extremely expensive hotels of the former categories 9 or 10, which cost up to 95,000 points per night, but can cost 4-digit sums per night if normally paid.
  • Hotels of the former categories 1, 2 or also 3, which are extremely cheap booked with points, but regularly paid are at least middle-class priced.

With a few tricks and the appropriate hotels, it can be very attractive. We would like to introduce you to some of the most interesting deals below. The best and most expensive resorts in the Hilton portfolio are Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, which will open soon. Both can be very worthwhile to redeem points.

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi – save up to 80%

The new Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi in the Maldives will be the most luxurious and expensive hotel in the entire Hilton Honors portfolio with its opening on 1 July 2019. The “standard rooms” are already 234 square meter pool villas with private beach access, regular prices start at over EUR 2,000 per night.

Click here to go to the hotel. This is what the standard room looks like:

It has long been speculated whether Hilton Honors would make the hotel available for points bookings – after all, the maximum number of Hilton Honors points for the cheapest rooms in a hotel so far has always been 95,000 points. That’s an excellent deal for Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, but it’s almost too good to be true for Waldorf Astoria.

Now Hilton Honors have actually unlocked availability for points bookings at Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi. However, a special regulation applies, meaning that the standard room rewards at the resort cost 120,000 points. This is more than a fair deal for the value offered, especially as there are quite good availabilities.

5 nights for the price of 4

Even more interesting is the 5th Night Free Promotion, where you get the fifth night for free on reward bookings if you have at least Hilton Honors Silver status.

For example, you can easily get Hilton Honors Gold status through the Hilton status matching challenge (see our Insider News publication in Hilton chapter) for which you can utilize your GHA Platinum or Black status (they are included in our PLATINUM and DIAMOND memberships).

So now you can stay five nights for 480,000 points, which lowers the effective price per night to 96,000 points. The 480,000 points are easy to earn if you purchase the maximum of 160,000 points for USD 800 (approximately EUR 710) with three accounts each and then transfer them to the account that has Hilton Honors status (see below for details on combining Honors points).

You will pay only EUR 2,130 for five nights in a huge beach pool villa in the new Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi Maldives. This is actually about the same price as a single night at the resort.

Below you can see an example of five nights in January 2020 booked once with money and once with points. You normally pay a total of USD 12,244 (approx. EUR 10,870) including all taxes and fees, i.e. USD 2,449 (approx. EUR 2,174) per night.

When you book points, all taxes and fees are automatically paid and you pay only EUR 426 per night converted (when you buy points with 100% bonus and 5th-night-free). You achieve a saving of over 80%.

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island – save up to 63%

I have been there more than ten times and can recommend it strongly. It is spread over two islands connected by a bridge and has the largest number of restaurants of all resorts in the Maldives, including the famous underwater restaurant Ithaa.

The prices start in the “good” months (November to April), which is the best time to travel in the Maldives, usually around USD 1,000 per night. As a Hilton Honors member or with certain special offers you will be offered slightly cheaper rates, then the USD 1,000 can be slightly underbid, such as shown here in November 2019:

Converted this is approx. EUR 850. If you now pay with points, then it is only USD 475 (approx. EUR 420), since you need 95,000 points for a free night. This is a significant saving of over 50 percent.

Currently, there is even a Water Villa on most dates for 95,000 points per night:

With a discount, this costs about EUR 1,140. You can even save 63% by using points.

The only problem is that even with 160,000 points you only get one free night. For that, of course, you don’t travel to the Maldives. But there are some ways to eliminate this problem:

Ways to more points and Hilton Honors GOLD status

You can obtain Hilton GOLD status at short notice as part of the Hilton Status Challenge. For example, you can match the GHA Platinum or Black status included in a PLATINUM or DIAMOND membership.

The Hilton Honors GOLD status brings you various benefits at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort. For example, every evening you can enjoy the Happy Hour with a free drink at the Vilu Bar. Free breakfast is unfortunately not included, but during the last two years, the Hilton GOLD and of course DIAMOND have always provided it. In this respect, the status can be worth a lot.
